She's Purdy Again!

Tonight after work (and the dentist) I went to get my winter tires taken off my car, and my sweet sweet mag wheel put back on for the summer. I forgot how lovely she is with her proper boots on! I'd show you a photo...but I'm in a lazy mood...

The Dreaded Dentist

I'm going to the dentist this morning...I HATE the dentist...Mind you mine is a very nice man who has worked on my teeth since I was about 8, so that's ok. I have only one hygenist that I like to work on me, she is really nice as well. I'm convinced my file has a little note about my nervousness because once in a while I get a different hygenist, she looks at my file then suddenly starts talking very slowly and is trying to soothe me...I'm sure it says 'Patient is a freak, handle with care' in big red letters at the top of my file.

What is it with the dentist anyway? They poke and prod you, make you numb, make you bleed....you drool, you pass out...then you have to PAY for it? If I was into some odd S&M stuff I'd at least go to a dentist wearing a leather thong and holding a whip..

Also, my dentist has the same radio station on the overhead speakers for the past 20 years! I hate that station! Lite Rock is the poison in our society!!!

Sunday Hoo-Haa's

This weekend was none too exciting, we did take it easy and enjoy the warm weather mind you. Being on a strict 'no-spending' rule completely sucks (saving up for the Honeymoon), it basically means no movies, restaurants, DVD's, or ANYTHING involving little green pieces of paper or little plastic cards...blah... Here are some pics for you to enjoy:

Yay! A two for one shot!

Fanboy Casting

As I continue to read 'The Lovely Bones', the Alice Sebold bestseller that will soon be a major motion picture by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, I cannot help but come up with my personal choices as to who should play these characters. I haven't selected all the main characters, but these three are my first choice:

Joan Allen as Abigail Salmon

Joan's impressive work on films such as 'Pleasantville' and 'The Contender' lead me to believe she would be perfect as the mother to the slain character Susie. Abigail's world comes crashing down in a single moment and she is completely unable to cope, her family is left behind as she continues to spiral down a slippery path. Allen has the ability to convey Abigail's loss convincingly, she also has the natural grace and beauty that are inherent in the character. The more I read about Abigail the more I felt she would be great for this part.

Adrien Brody as Detective Len

Perhaps dealing with Adrien Brody as often as I have lately has caused me to be biased...but I really think he would be great as Detective Len. Len is assigned the case of Susie Salmon's death, and he takes it very personally. Without going into too much details I can really see Adrien using his charm, wit and diluted sex appeal to work this character into something really amazing. He has the sensitivity, the looks and the skill to handle this subtle character.

Adam Baldwin as Mr. Harvey

Perhaps this is too obvious a choice for the a-typical bad guy, but Adam Baldwin (who is NOT one of the brothers) really stands out for me as the murdering Mr. Harvey. This book does not disguise the fact as to who Mr. Harvey is, his rape and murder of Susie is told in cold detail, and as the book moves further along we learn more about this man. Adam has the 'dark side' mentality this character needs. Like I said it does seem like obvious 'bad guy' casting, it may be just the right choice, almost a 'he's so suspicious it can't possibly be him' type of mentality that the police take towards him regarding Susie's death.

Anne Bancroft as Grandma Lyn

Anne's career is full of amazing work, and when reading the important park Lyn plays, as well as her sassy attitude and amazingly out-of-place demeanor, I knew she'd be perfect for this role! Lyn is the proverbial black sheep of the family, preferring looks over practicality, she and her daughter Abigail are on two different planes of existence. However she comes to this family in their time of need, and I think Anne's tough yet caring attitude would do wonders on a character like this.

Well...that's all I go so far..thanks for listening!

Tuxedo A Go-Go

Last night's tuxedo fitting went quite well. My fiancé and I arrived a bit early to look over the catalog and select the colours and styles we liked. My dad arrived next followed by my future father-in-law, I am SO happy my family gets along with my fiancé's, I have childhood memories of nightmarish holidays with my grandparents and my mother..who did NOT get along. Both dad's get along quite well and crack each other up...so I am glad.

We all ended up selecting the same tux, with colour differences and the like, the only different one is my father who selected a double breasted suit with no vest..he loves his double breasted suits! My Best Man (known as the BM in the rental store) and the only Groomsman (GM) don't live here in Montreal, so they need to be fitted at another suit store and will send along their info to me. My dad (FOG - Father of the Groom) looked great in his trial-suit, he has lost a lot of weight due to various illnesses...but it really helped his cholesterol and beer belly! My future father-in-law was given the unfortunate title of FOB...it didn't take long for everyone to start with the 'you lousy FOB...' or 'that guy is a real FOB' comments...all in good fun.

We ended the night off by picking up some smoked meat sandwiches at one of the greatest deli's on the West Island...then home to watch some Firefly on DVD....all in all a good night!

Tuxedo Time!

Tonight I go for my wedding tuxedo fitting. I've actually spent a few nights in a Tux the last few years, so it isn't something new to me. The idea of being married is slightly new of course! I also get to assert my ONLY authority when it comes to this wedding (not that I'm complaining...I think my fiancé is doing an AMAZING job with all the hard decisions), I get to decide what the best man, usher and my father will be wearing, well...maybe not my dad..he knows what he wants already.

So what do I select for the Best Man and the usher? Powder blue with ruffles? Long coattails with top hat and cane? Hrm...I think I'd like to see them all wearing a white tux with pink bowties!

Men cannot help but pretend to be James Bon 007 in a tux, it just comes naturally...we add the shades to look cool...walk around with a fake gun (the TV remote works best for me) and pretend to shoot anyone in sight...who hasn't wanted to be Bond, James Bond at least once in their life?

One of the things I think about when renting tuxes is 'who had this tux before me? How many weddings, proms, bar mitzvah's and other things has this tux seen?'...if suits could talk..

I'll let you know what I decide later this evening...if all goes well.

Kinda thought this was cool...watch him/her go!

New Reading: A Lovely Bones

I just picked up Alice Sebold's novel 'A Lovely Bones', the reason is two-fold; I have heard it is an interesting book, and Peter Jackson will soon be adapting this for the big screen. This will be his next project after King Kong.

I am not yet 50 pages into the book yet and it is already one of the most unique books I have ever read. The author's views on death, the afterlife and those we leave behind are fascinating. I recommend you pick this up on your next trip to the bookstore.

That being said I'm not too sure if we will be making a website to follow Peter's work on this film, it really doesn't seem the type of movie that would have a massive following...so we're in a bit of a quandary here. More details soon.

I Hate Blogging...

Ok, well that's not exactly true. I simply hate the term 'blog', it really has become the catchphrase of the year...and catchphrases in general are annoying. So, why the sheery irony of creating a Blog page of my own? Simple...I am WAY too lazy to HTML-ify my own section of the web...and this is quick and easy to use.

I can see how having your own spot online to post one's thoughts and ideas can be appealing....but when major corporations, brands, celebs start their own blogs...it takes away the 'common man' feel to the whole experience. I mean does Electronic Arts really need a Blog to allow users to follow up on their latest games? Do websites like CNN.com or Newsweek really need a Blog section on their site? Are these not major corporations with millions of dollars and programmers who make spiffy looking websites for them to use? Why use a Blog?

I guess that's my main gripe with the whole thing :)
