So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish

Ok, so I promised I wouldn't do movie reviews on here...but I cannot help and write about my paradoxical feelings towards the new 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' film. First a little history, I came across the series one night on TV when I was a kid, being a BIG Doctor Who fan I immediately recognized the shaky BBC studio quality sets and bad lighting. I was hooked from day one, later one summer I came across the audio tapes and got to enjoy the series in a whole new light, I read the books over and over..and loved every minute of it. I was truly saddened when Douglas Adams died and so I was really looking forward to this film.

I KNEW it wouldn't be the same, I KNEW there would be big changes to the story..I was ready for that..I was ok.

I LOVE the casting, Sam Rockwell as Zaphod? BRILLIANT! Everyone was really great.

I LOVE the SFX, truly top of the line stuff.

I LOVE the puppeteer work on the Vogons, really amazing work that proves you do not need CGI for every small detail.

So with all these things I LOVED...why does the movie still disappoint me? I guess the dramatic change of story line, the lack of the restaurant at the end of the universe, and the happy-go-lucky everything is ok again ending..I mean..Earth was destroyed! Why rebuild it and make everyone happy?!

Sigh..it's such an odd feeling to love a movie for all its little bits, but dislike it on the whole...

I am in the process of making a decal for T shirts for myself and a couple of friends..."SO LONG & THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH".

The movie IMO, rocks.

Cheers,
