A Mowin' The Lawn We Go
This weekend I turned 14 years old again.
To save a little money we decided not to buy a lawnmower but borrow my dad's from time to time. Saturday afternoon he came over and decided to 'help' me mow the lawn, of course my dads idea of 'help' is to do the whole thing himself and let me hold the bag, literally.
This all brought me back to when I was about 14 and living with my parents, my dad would be working hard on something and my mom would come see me and insist I go out and help him. I would ask my dad if he needed help, and sometimes he obviously did, he would insist he was ok. If I was adamant that I should help him (or my mom wouldn't let me off the hook) he would give me some menial job like 'clean up after me' or 'hold the bag for the grass' or 'watch the power cord'. We eventually got used to this relationship and I soon began to offer my help less and less.
It's not to say I didn't want to help him, of course I did, he just never let me actually DO anything to help. So once again this weekend he pulled out the lawnmower and got to work...and I was left watching him sweat and work his butt off on MY lawn.
I finally insisted I should do at least SOME work, and he reluctantly let me do the small patch of grass on my front lawn. I had to litrerally re-assure him I would call him and let him come over when I decide to do the backyard this week.
God bless my dad for wanting to help out, and being a man who likes to finish a job he starts. But I can really see this becoming a problem when he starts getting older and I HAVE to do things for him, which I will gladly do, if I can pry them away from his hands.
Thanks Dad, you're the best...but you need to relax some!
