Cable Car Goodness and Quest Fulfilled!!!
Well I finally did it, we got to the Embassy Theatre at the right time to take a look at my seat! More on that later.
Last night we went to this really cool Mexican place called 'The Flying Burrito Brothers' on Cuba St.. It was a neat little place with a hip trendy feel to it. I had a fajita plate while the Wifey had A Flying Burrito (it didn't fly). We left there and headed back to the hotel to catch a movie on my DVD player (Constantine).
This morning we both woke up quite late...and hungry! We caved and nicked two chocolate bars from the hotel fridge..WAY overpriced!! We then headed out to the parliment building located not too far from us. The place is called 'The Beehive' because of it's unique shape. All around the parliment there was some amazing greenspaces and statues. It is good friday today so parking was free and there weren't that many people out, plus the weather was so amazing! We took a ton of pics.
Next we went to another very trendy little cafe right next to the Embassy Theatre on Kent St. They had all this vegan food and really good cookies. Then...it was time...time for my seat!
We went into the theatre and asked for the guidebook that details all the seat numbers in alphabetical order. Mine was V36, back row, almost in the middle. We got into the theatre and I found my seat..what a thrill! We took some photos of my ass placed firmly in my seat. We then went around looking at other seat names, all the stars from LOTR donated money and have a seat named after them. I'm next to a knight Sir Ben something, and another name I can't recall. I left the theatre feeling very accomplished in my seat quest.
After that we were at a bit of a loss as to what to do, so we decided to find the Wellington Cable Car and ride it to the top. The cable car is very old, and has been around forever, at the top of the track there is a museum showing really great photos of the old cars, the track, and the surrounding area. We took a walk through the botanical gardens and saw a wild cat who looked a lot like our cat Willow. We are both missing her a whole lot so it was nice to get some 'cat time' with this friendly wild cat.
We left the cable car area and took a walk through the surrounding outdoor shops. Everything was closed since it was Good Friday, but the weather was so nice that I didn't want to leave. We then tried to find an open grocery store, but alas all we could do is get to a local grocery store and pick up orange juice...I wanted real food dammit!
Tonight is my turn to choose dinner so naturally we're going to order chinese and stay in the hotel to chill. Something about eating dinner in my PJ's really appeals to me.
Ah...New Zealand...I love this place!
